DESCRIPTION

Introduction:
Echinodorus ‘Red Diamond’ is a striking rosette-style aquatic plant known for its deep red to bronze foliage and bold, architectural presence in the aquarium. Developed as a cultivated hybrid, this plant combines the hardiness of classic Echinodorus species with vibrant coloration that intensifies under good lighting. With its broad leaves and upright growth habit, Echinodorus ‘Red Diamond’ is ideal as a midground to background focal point, adding strong contrast and a rich, warm tone to aquascapes. Its moderate growth rate and robust nature make it suitable for both beginner and advanced hobbyists looking to introduce a colourful centrepiece.

Care Requirements:

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 22–28°C

  • pH Range: 6.5–7.5

  • Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water (3–12°dGH)

Nutrient Requirements:

Echinodorus ‘Red Diamond’ thrives in nutrient-rich substrates and benefits significantly from consistent root fertilisation. Root tabs support strong root development and maximise red pigmentation. Supplemental liquid fertilisers help maintain leaf colouration and prevent nutrient deficiencies. CO₂ is considered medium-demand for this plant—although not strictly required, it enhances colour intensity, growth speed, and leaf size.

Tank Setup:

This plant grows to a height of 15–20+ cm, making it ideal for midground placement in medium to large aquariums. Moderate lighting is preferred, which helps sustain red tones without causing excessive vertical stretching. Adequate space around the rosette ensures proper light penetration to all leaves. A gentle to moderate flow keeps leaves clean and prevents debris accumulation.

Care Tips:

Remove older or damaged leaves at the base to encourage healthy new growth and maintain the plant’s shape. Avoid crowding the plant with taller species that may shade it, as sufficient light supports strong coloration. Provide regular root feeding to prevent pale or translucent leaves—Echinodorus are heavy root feeders and respond visibly to consistent nutrient supply. While adaptable, stable water parameters will ensure long-term health and vibrant foliage.

Echinodorus ‘Red Diamond’ brings a bold, colourful presence to aquascapes, making it an excellent statement plant for nature-style, Dutch-style, or simple feature layouts. With its rich red tones and reliable growth, it adds depth and character to any aquarium and thrives with moderate care, rewarding aquarists with lush, eye-catching foliage.
