Schoenorchis fragrans
The Fragrant Schoenorchis

Description:
Schoenorchis fragrans, commonly known as the Fragrant Schoenorchis, is a cool- to warm-growing orchid native to the deciduous forests of parts of Asia. This super-miniature species is highly prized for its compact growth habit and dense clusters of tiny, fragrant flowers that bloom in the summer. The plant's close-packed, fleshy leaves form a neat rosette, making it an excellent choice for small spaces or terrarium environments.

Care Guide:

  • Temperature:
Schoenorchis fragrans thrives in a cool to warm environment, with optimal temperatures ranging from 15°C to 28°C . It can tolerate slightly higher temperatures if humidity is kept high.

  • Light:
This orchid prefers bright, indirect light. It can tolerate low light conditions but will flower best with moderate to bright light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

  • Watering:
Keep the plant evenly moist but not waterlogged. Water regularly, allowing the substrate to dry slightly between waterings. In its native habitat, this orchid experiences seasonal rain, so increasing watering during the growing season (spring to summer) and reducing it during the cooler months will mimic its natural cycle.

  • Humidity:
Schoenorchis fragrans prefers high humidity, ideally between 60% and 80%. If grown indoors, consider using a humidity tray or misting the plant regularly to maintain adequate moisture levels.

  • Substrate:
This orchid can be grown mounted on bark or in a well-draining mix designed for epiphytic orchids. If potted, ensure the container has good drainage to prevent water from stagnating.

  • Fertilization:
Feed with a balanced, diluted orchid fertilizer every two weeks during the growing season. Reduce feeding in the winter when the plant's growth slows down.

  • Air Circulation:
Good air circulation is essential to prevent fungal diseases. Ensure the plant is placed in a well-ventilated area.

Special Notes:
Schoenorchis fragrans is an ideal choice for orchid enthusiasts who appreciate miniature species and fragrant blooms. Its small size makes it perfect for terrariums, vivariums, or small pots.
