DESCRIPTION

The German Spotted Pinto Red (Mix) is a selectively bred variant of Caridina cf. cantonensis, developed to showcase a stunning variety of red-and-white patterns, often including spots, zebra stripes, or tiger-like markings. This shrimp is part of the Pinto shrimp group, which originated from crossing Taiwan Bee shrimp with tiger or other bee shrimp strains. The "German" label refers to breeding lines known for exceptional pattern quality and strong genetics, developed primarily by German breeders. The “Mix” indicates a combination of different spotted Pinto patterns within a single population.

Care Requirements:

  • Water Parameters:

    • Temperature: 20–23 °C

    • pH Range: 5.5–6.5

    • Hardness: Soft water; GH 4–6, KH 0–1

    • TDS: 100–140 ppm

  • Diet:
A balanced diet of biofilm, shrimp-specific pellets, blanched vegetables (like spinach or pumpkin), and occasional protein treats will support healthy growth and coloration. As with other Caridina, minimal and consistent feeding is key.

  • Tank Setup:
A planted, mature aquarium of 20 litres or more with an active buffering substrate is ideal. Leaf litter, driftwood, mosses (like Java or Christmas moss), and cholla wood provide foraging surfaces and shelter. A sponge or shrimp-safe filter maintains water quality with gentle flow. Use RO water with proper remineralization to control pH and hardness.

  • Behavior:
Peaceful and non-aggressive, these shrimp are active foragers and display social behavior when kept in groups. They are, however, quite delicate and require extremely stable water conditions. The "Mix" variety may show slight variation in pattern quality and coloration depending on lineage.

  • Tank Mates:
Best kept in species-only setups or alongside other peaceful Caridina shrimp with similar water needs. Avoid Neocaridina, larger fish, or any aggressive tank mates that may disturb or prey on them.

Care Tips:

Keep water changes small (around 10–15% weekly) and consistent. Always match temperature and TDS when adding new water. Avoid any copper-based treatments, and test water regularly to ensure parameter stability. For best coloration and survival, breed in dedicated shrimp tanks without competitive species.

The German Spotted Pinto Red (Mix) combines refined European genetics with striking, unpredictable beauty—making each shrimp a unique display of pattern and color. It’s a favorite for breeders and collectors seeking vivid, high-contrast shrimp with refined traits.
