Scientific Name: Limnophila sessiliflora
Family: Plantaginaceae
Origin: Southeast Asia
Height: 20 – 50 cm
Light Requirements: Low to Medium
CO₂ Requirements: Low (beneficial for enhanced growth and colour)
Growth Rate: Fast
Difficulty Level: Easy
Available Information:
Limnophila sessiliflora is often compared to Cabomba for its delicate, fern-like foliage but is much easier to care for, making it a popular alternative. It grows quickly and forms dense, bushy groups with thin stems and fine, needle-like leaves that can develop a reddish hue under stronger lighting.
The plant is highly adaptable and thrives in a wide range of water conditions, including low-tech setups. While CO₂ supplementation and good lighting improve colour and density, this species will still perform well in basic aquariums. It's an excellent choice for new tanks, as its rapid growth helps absorb excess nutrients and outcompete algae.
Propagation is simple—just cut healthy stems and replant them in the substrate. With regular trimming, Limnophila sessiliflora creates lush plant groupings that add a soft, flowing dynamic to any aquascape.
This versatile plant works beautifully in background groupings, as filler in Dutch-style tanks, or even as a midground accent in taller aquariums.
