More Information:
Unlike most other Ludwigia species, Ludwigia glandulosa stands out for its deep red coloration and rigid, upright stems. In strong lighting, the plant develops vivid wine-red to burgundy tones on both the leaves and stems. Under lower light, the leaves appear more olive-green but retain their red undersides.
Its stiff, vertical stems can exceed 20 cm in height, supporting lanceolate leaves that range from 3 to 11 cm long. The plant branches very little naturally, though trimming encourages fuller growth. In optimal conditions, it may also produce roots and side shoots along lower stems.
Though it requires more care than beginner plants, Ludwigia glandulosa rewards aquascapers with intense colour and architectural form. It performs best in nutrient-rich tanks with strong light, CO₂ injection, and consistent fertilization to maintain its bold red hues and healthy growth.
Propagation is simple via stem cuttings, but patience is key—this species grows slower than many other stems and needs time to establish. Ideal as a colourful highlight or vertical accent in Dutch-style layouts or high-contrast nature scapes.
