More Information:
Hygrophila difformis is an amphibious plant found in slow-moving waters of tropical Asia. In its submerged form, it produces beautifully divided, fern-like leaves that are bright green and can grow 6–12 cm wide. These intricate leaves create texture and volume in the aquascape, making the plant especially effective in larger tanks.
This species is very adaptable and easy to care for, making it ideal for beginners. It thrives under medium lighting, though CO₂ supplementation can enhance its growth. The only notable sensitivity is to micronutrient deficiencies, which can result in pale leaves—regular fertilization helps avoid this.
After planting, emersed-grown stems will transition into their submerged form, developing the characteristic finely divided leaves. The plant’s rapid growth helps it outcompete algae, making it a great choice for new setups or for establishing plant mass quickly.
Hygrophila difformis is best used in the midground or background of spacious aquariums, where its vibrant green foliage can shine as a lush, eye-catching group.
