Hemianthus micranthemoides (Hemianthus micranthemoides)
Introduction:
Hemianthus micranthemoides, sometimes informally referred to as “Pearl Grass,” is a delicate, fast-growing stem plant known for its small, round, bright green leaves and dense, bushy growth. Native to North America, it adds a soft, vibrant texture to aquascapes and is ideal for foreground to midground placement. When grown in high light with CO₂, it forms compact, lush cushions or low hedges. Supplied in tissue culture form, this Ready to Grow version is sterile and free of snails, algae, and unwanted hitchhikers—ideal for clean aquascape setups.
Care Requirements:
Water Parameters:
Temperature: 20–28 °C
pH Range: 5.5–7.5
Water Hardness: 2–10 dGH
Nutrient Requirements:
Grows best with CO₂ injection and a steady supply of macro- and micronutrients. High lighting is essential to maintain its compact, horizontal spread.
Tank Setup:
Suitable for foreground or midground use. Can be trimmed and shaped into bushes or carpets. Best planted in small clumps and given space to spread naturally.
Care Tips:
Rinse thoroughly to remove all tissue culture gel. Plant in loose groups for faster coverage. Trim regularly to promote side shoots and prevent vertical stretching. Excellent for nature-style and Dutch-style layouts that require fine textures and bright accents.
With its soft, bright foliage and compact form, Hemianthus micranthemoides is a charming, versatile plant that enhances the structure and vibrancy of planted tanks. Its tissue culture format ensures a healthy, algae-free beginning for any aquascape.
