Glossostigma elatinoides

Introduction:

Glossostigma elatinoides is a popular and fast-growing carpeting plant native to New Zealand, recognized for its small, spoon-shaped leaves and tight, creeping growth habit. As one of the original foreground choices in aquascaping, it's widely used for creating lush, green carpets in high-tech setups. Known for its low profile and vibrant green hue, it requires specific care to maintain its compact form. Supplied in tissue culture format, this Ready to Grow Glossostigma is sterile and free from pests, snails, and algae—ideal for achieving a clean, professional aquascape.

Care Requirements:

  • Water Parameters:
    Temperature: 20–28 °C
    pH Range: 5.5–7.5
    Water Hardness: 2–8 dGH

  • Nutrient Requirements:
Needs a nutrient-rich substrate and benefits from consistent CO₂ injection. Regular dosing with micronutrients and macronutrients supports optimal growth and prevents upward stretching.

  • Tank Setup:
Best used in the foreground of nano and larger tanks. Requires high lighting to maintain compact growth. Plant in spaced clumps to encourage lateral spreading and full coverage.

Care Tips:

Rinse off all tissue culture gel thoroughly before planting. Separate into small clusters and plant with tweezers. Trim frequently to prevent vertical growth and maintain a tidy, carpeted look. Avoid shading from larger plants.

With its smooth, green coverage and low-growing nature, Glossostigma elatinoides is a favorite among aquascapers seeking refined, tightly packed foregrounds. Its tissue culture format ensures a clean, vibrant start with excellent adaptability to high-tech environments.
