Eleocharis acicularis (Eleocharis acicularis)
Introduction:
Eleocharis acicularis is a classic and widely used carpeting plant in aquascaping, often referred to simply as Hair Grass due to its thin, needle-like leaves. Native to temperate and tropical regions around the globe, it is prized for its graceful, flowing appearance and its ability to form dense, natural-looking carpets in the aquarium foreground. Taller than the 'Mini' variety, it adds height while still maintaining a refined texture. Supplied in tissue culture format, this Ready to Grow version is clean and free from snails, algae, and other unwanted pests.
Care Requirements:
Water Parameters:
Temperature: 18–28 °C
pH Range: 6.0–7.5
Water Hardness: 2–12 dGH
Nutrient Requirements:
Grows best in nutrient-rich substrates with additional liquid fertilization. CO₂ injection and strong lighting support compact, healthy growth and faster carpet formation.
Tank Setup:
Ideal for the foreground or sloped midground areas in aquascapes. Requires moderate to high light for horizontal spreading. Use in nano or large tanks for a soft, meadow-like effect.
Care Tips:
Rinse tissue culture gel completely before planting. Divide into small tufts and plant them evenly across the substrate using tweezers. Regular trimming encourages new runners and prevents vertical growth. Ensure good flow and consistent nutrients for best results.
With its fine texture and natural spreading habit, Eleocharis acicularis creates beautiful, grassy landscapes in any planted aquarium. The tissue culture format provides a safe, clean start that integrates seamlessly into well-maintained aquascapes.
