DESCRIPTION

Introduction:

Eriocaulon cinereum, also known as Gray Hairgrass, is a fine-bladed carpeting species closely related to other dwarf hairgrass varieties, but with its own subtle and elegant characteristics. Native to tropical and subtropical regions, it features ultra-thin, slightly grey-green blades that give a soft, flowing appearance to aquascapes. Compared to Eleocharis pusilla, cinereum stays very low and spreads horizontally, making it a top-tier choice for foreground coverage, especially in high-detail layouts or nano tanks. This in vitro culture offers a clean, pest-free start for optimal success in sensitive setups.

Care Requirements:

  • Water Parameters:
    Temperature: 20–28°C
    pH Range: 5.5–7.5
    Hardness: Soft to medium (2–10°dH)

  • Nutrient Requirements:
Prefers a nutrient-rich substrate and benefits from consistent dosing with liquid fertilizers. CO₂ supplementation is highly recommended for healthy, compact growth and fast spreading. Root tabs can be used in low-tech tanks to support root health.

  • Tank Setup:
    Minimum Tank Size: 10 litres
Substrate: Fine-grain, nutrient-rich soil or sand
Decorations: Best used as a foreground carpet plant
Lighting: Medium to high intensity to maintain compact form
    CO₂: Strongly recommended

Care Tips:

Rinse off all culture gel before planting. Divide the in vitro clump into small plugs and space them evenly in the foreground to allow for lateral spreading via runners. Regular trimming encourages horizontal growth and prevents the plant from growing too tall. Good flow and clean water are essential to prevent detritus and algae buildup between the delicate blades.

Delicate, refined, and visually soft, Eriocaulon cinereum creates a naturalistic carpet that sways gently in the current. Ideal for minimalistic layouts or fine-detail scaping, it brings a clean and airy feel to the aquarium floor with very little maintenance once established.

Please note: Product images are for display purposes only. As a natural product, plant appearance will vary.
