Cryptocoryne spiralis is a classic, tall-growing ‘cryp’ known for its long, narrow, spiralling leaves that create a graceful, flowing texture in the aquarium. Native to India, this hardy species thrives in a variety of water conditions and settles easily into both low-tech and high-tech environments. Its leaves range from bright green to bronzy tones depending on light, nutrients, and substrate richness, making it a versatile plant for nature-style and biotope aquascapes.
Once established, C. spiralis forms dense clusters through its root system, spreading by runners that develop new plantlets. Like most Cryptocorynes, it appreciates stable conditions—sudden changes in lighting or water chemistry may cause temporary “crypt melt,” but the plant reliably recovers with consistent care. Its upright, elegant growth makes it ideal for background planting or creating height and movement behind mid-ground hardscape.
