The Gastrodermus hastatus, (formerly known as Corydoras hastatus) commonly known as the Tail-spot Pygmy Cory, is a fascinating and peaceful nano catfish that brings endless activity and character to smaller planted aquariums. Unlike many other Corydoras species, these tiny fish are known for their unique swimming behaviour — they often spend time in the mid-water area of the aquarium, creating a beautiful display as they move together in a group.
Growing to only around 3 cm, the Tail-spot Pygmy Cory is perfect for nano tanks, planted aquariums, and aquascapes where their gentle nature and schooling behaviour can truly be appreciated. Their silver body, subtle iridescent sheen, and distinctive dark spot on the tail make them an attractive addition to a natural aquarium setup.
As a true schooling species, they feel most comfortable when kept in groups of 8 or more, where they display their most natural behaviour. They are peaceful community fish and are ideal companions for other small, non-aggressive species.
Like all Corydoras, Gastrodermus hastatus are bottom feeders with sensitive barbels that they use to search through the substrate for food. A soft, fine substrate is recommended to protect their delicate barbels, especially in planted aquariums.
