Microsorum pteropus ‘Windelov’, commonly known as Windelov Java Fern, is a decorative cultivar of the classic Java Fern, prized for its finely branched, lace-like leaf tips. This unique leaf structure creates a delicate, textured look that adds elegance and visual interest to any aquascape. Like the standard Java Fern, Windelov is extremely hardy and thrives when attached to hardscape such as driftwood or rocks, where its rhizome can remain exposed and healthy.
Native to Southeast Asia, this slow-growing fern performs well in low to medium light and adapts easily to a wide range of water parameters, making it ideal for beginners and experienced aquascapers alike. It is especially valuable in low-tech aquariums, shrimp tanks, and nature-style layouts where its distinctive foliage can shine. Windelov Java Fern propagates through rhizome division and often produces small plantlets along mature leaves, making expansion simple and steady without demanding maintenance.
