DESCRIPTION

Introduction:

Bucephalandra sp. var. 'Apple Leaf' is a beautiful and hardy aquatic plant known for its broad, slightly wavy leaves that can range in color from vibrant green to deep reddish hues, depending on lighting and nutrient availability. Native to the freshwater streams of Borneo, Bucephalandra species are epiphytic plants that naturally grow on rocks and driftwood in shaded, flowing waters. This slow-growing plant is highly valued in aquascaping for its unique appearance and easy maintenance, making it an excellent choice for beginners and experienced aquarists alike.

Care Requirements:

  • Water Parameters: Prefers temperatures between 22–28°C, with a pH range of 6.0–7.5 and soft to moderately hard water (dH up to 12).
  • Nutrient Requirements: Benefits from liquid fertilization, especially iron and micronutrients, to enhance its coloration. CO₂ supplementation is optional but can promote more robust growth.
  • Tank Setup: Best attached to hardscape elements such as driftwood or rocks rather than being buried in the substrate to prevent rhizome rot. Thrives in low to moderate lighting, which helps prevent excessive algae growth.

Care Tips:

Maintain stable water parameters and provide occasional nutrient dosing to keep its foliage vibrant. Avoid burying the rhizome in the substrate, as this can cause it to rot. Gentle water flow helps keep the leaves free of debris and promotes healthy growth. Due to its slow-growing nature, occasional removal of older leaves will keep the plant looking fresh.

Bucephalandra sp. var. 'Apple Leaf' is a fantastic addition to any aquascape, offering a unique texture and color variation while requiring minimal care. Its adaptability and striking appearance make it a popular choice for aquascapers looking to add depth and contrast to their aquarium.
