The tiny fruit of the Alder trees (Aalnus glutinosa and Alnus incana) has been widely utilized by aquarium hobbyists all over the world for some time. Betta and ornamental shrimp breeders are fond of the tannins released into the water by these cones, and their alleged antifungal and antibacterial properties.
Recommended Usage:
We'd recommend a starting quantity of about 6-8 for every 60 liters of aquarium water, although there is no hard and fast rule about this. Alder Cones can lower the pH of soft water surprisingly quickly while imparting a nice brownish tint.
