DESCRIPTION

Introduction:

Anubias barteri var. glabra is a hardy and visually appealing aquatic plant known for its elongated, lance-shaped leaves that give it a sleek and refined look. Native to West Africa, this variety thrives in freshwater aquariums and paludariums, offering both aesthetic appeal and functional benefits such as algae resistance and water oxygenation. Like other Anubias species, it is slow-growing and highly adaptable, making it an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced aquarists.

Care Requirements:

  • Water Parameters: Prefers a temperature range of 22–28°C, a pH between 6.0–7.5, and soft to moderately hard water (3–12 dGH).
  • Nutrient Requirements: Absorbs nutrients primarily through the water column, benefiting from liquid fertilizers containing iron and micronutrients. It does not require CO₂ supplementation but will grow faster with it.
  • Tank Setup: Best placed on hardscapes like driftwood or rocks, as burying its rhizome in the substrate may cause rot. It thrives under low to moderate lighting, making it suitable for shaded aquascapes or setups with subdued illumination.

Care Tips:

Avoid planting Anubias Glabra too deeply in the substrate; instead, attach it to rocks or wood using thread or aquarium-safe glue. Regular trimming of older leaves helps maintain its shape and health. Keep an eye on algae growth on its broad leaves—occasional cleaning or placement in shaded areas can minimize buildup.

With its elegant leaf structure, resilience, and ability to adapt to various conditions, Anubias barteri var. glabra is a fantastic addition to aquascapes, paludariums, and even low-tech tanks. Its slow-growing nature ensures minimal maintenance while providing lush greenery that enhances the visual appeal of any aquatic environment.
