The ADA - Cryptocoryne balansae is a strikingly unique aquatic plant that is native to calcareous rivers and streams in Thailand and neighboring countries. Known for its flexible, ribbon-shaped leaves, this species is highly variable, with some forms reaching up to 70 cm in length. Its leaves range in color from olive green to reddish brown, with distinctive brown-pink midribs and petioles. Over time, this plant forms a dense stand through its underground runners, and fine roots often grow out of the substrate, as is typical of many Cryptocoryne species. This particular variety is robust and easy to maintain, thriving in a range of carbonate hardness and pH levels, with an ideal temperature range of 20-28 °C. While addition of CO2 and nutrients can further enhance growth, they are not strictly necessary. Propagation is easily achieved by cutting young plants at the stolons in the soil.
