DESCRIPTION

Introduction:

Hydrocotyle sibthorpioides, also known as Round Pennywort, is a delicate and fast-growing creeping plant that adds a lush, natural look to aquascapes. Native to Asia and the Americas, this plant features small, round, clover-like leaves on thin, trailing stems, making it an excellent choice for carpeting, foreground, or midground placement. It thrives in both submerged and emersed conditions, making it suitable for aquariums, paludariums, and terrariums. Sold in a tissue culture cup, this plant is free from pests, algae, and snails, ensuring a healthy start for your aquatic environment.

Care Requirements:

  • Water Parameters: Prefers a temperature range of 20–28°C, with an optimal pH of 5.5–7.5 and soft to moderately hard water (2–12 dGH).
  • Nutrient Requirements: Benefits from regular liquid fertilization, particularly with iron and micronutrients, to maintain vibrant green growth. CO₂ supplementation encourages faster growth and denser carpeting.
  • Tank Setup: Thrives under moderate to high lighting, which helps it grow compact and bushy. Best planted in nutrient-rich substrate where it will spread naturally through runners, forming a dense, low-growing mat.

Care Tips:

To achieve a compact, low-growing carpet, trim regularly and provide strong lighting with CO₂ supplementation. If left untrimmed, the plant can grow upward, creating a more bushy, wild look. This plant can also grow emersed in humid environments, making it highly versatile for various aquascaping styles.

Hydrocotyle sibthorpioides is a fantastic option for aquascapers looking for a soft, natural carpeting plant with a unique, clover-like appearance. Its adaptability and ease of care make it suitable for both beginners and experienced aquarists. The tissue culture cup ensures a fresh, pest-free start, allowing for easy integration into a thriving planted tank.
