Nymphaea lotus ‘Green’ – Tuber Form

Nymphaea lotus ‘Green’, commonly known as the Green Tiger Lotus, is a beautiful aquatic plant prized for its lush green leaves and elegant, tropical appearance. Despite its name, it is not a true lotus but a night-blooming water lily that brings a serene, natural feel to any aquascape. Its broad, flowing leaves make it an ideal specimen or centerpiece plant for medium to large aquariums.

Key Features:

Lush Green Foliage: Striking green leaves with subtle veining create a lush, natural focal point in any setup.

Impressive Presence: Though compact at first, this species can grow large, making it perfect for tanks from 4 feet and up.

Underwater or Floating Growth: Can be maintained as a fully submerged plant or allowed to produce floating leaves and night-blooming flowers.

Low to High Light Adaptable: Thrives under a wide range of lighting conditions and grows well even without CO₂ supplementation.

Care Requirements:

Lighting: Low to high; brighter light enhances growth and encourages flowering.
CO₂: Not essential but promotes stronger growth and leaf color.
Water Parameters: pH 6.0–7.5 | Temperature 22–28 °C.
Growth Rate: Fast; heavy root feeder requiring regular nutrition.
Propagation: Produces offset plantlets that can be separated and replanted.

Planting Tips:

  • Plant the tuber in nutrient-rich substrate with the leaves facing upward and partially exposed.

  • For compact, underwater growth, remove floating leaves before they reach the surface.

  • To encourage flowering, allow floating leaves to develop; blooms open at night and close during the day.

  • Regularly feed with high-quality plant tabs or root fertilizers to support vigorous growth.
