Bucephalandra ‘Brownie Blue’ – Potted Plant

Bucephalandra ‘Brownie Blue’ is a rare and elegant aquatic plant, prized for its oblong, wavy-edged leaves that develop a subtle blueish tint once adapted to underwater growth. Its slow-growing nature and shimmering coloration under LED lighting make it an excellent choice for nano aquariums or as a refined accent plant in larger aquascapes. Supplied in potted form, it comes with a strong root system for easier establishment.

Key Features:

  • Blue-Toned Leaves: Distinctive oblong leaves with a shimmering blueish hue once settled underwater.

  • Compact & Slow-Growing: Perfect for nano tanks, midground detailing, or as accents in larger layouts.

  • Epiphytic Nature: Best attached to rocks, driftwood, or hardscape; avoid burying the rhizome.

  • Low-Maintenance: Thrives in low to medium light and adapts well to a range of conditions.

  • Potted Form: Strong root development makes planting and establishing in the aquarium easier.

Care Requirements:

  • Lighting: Prefers low to medium lighting; higher light may enhance coloration but can encourage algae.

  • CO₂: Not required but beneficial for faster growth and richer coloration.

  • Water Parameters: Adaptable to most aquariums, with a pH range of 6.0–7.5 and temperatures of 22–28 °C.

  • Growth Rate: Slow; ideal for stable, long-term aquascapes.

  • Propagation: Propagates by dividing the rhizome into smaller pieces.

Planting Tips:

  • Remove the plant carefully from the pot and rinse off any excess rockwool or substrate.

  • Do not bury the rhizome—attach to hardscape using thread, glue, or fishing line until roots secure naturally.

  • Place in shaded areas of the aquarium to reduce algae buildup and bring out its blueish coloration.
