The Hypancistrus sp. (L236) prefers fine sand on the bottom of the tank.
They need an aquarium set up consisting of lots of hiding places in the form of rocks, wood, and caves that suit their measurements.
They prefer warmer water (27-30 C) that is soft and slightly acidic.
Hypancistrus are mostly carnivores. These fish will only eat sinking foods, which they rasp from the floor of the tank. They appreciate meaty frozen foods such as frozen brine shrimp and bloodworms. They also enjoy rasping on large sinking pellets and wafers.
