From the crystalwort species group, there are various, unspecified types in the aquarium hobby. They are usually called Riccia fluitans without any further distinction. Their appearance also depends strongly on the culture conditions, but they do differ under the same growth conditions. A finer and a coarser form are frequently found on the market. As well as the finer form, it has relatively long thallus branches, which, however, clearly differ in width.
Under water, Riccia fluitans grows best when CO2Β is added. Under good conditions, oxygen bubbles will form on the shoot tips. It can also be grown as a floating plant and is a great protection for fish fry.
