DESCRIPTION

Introduction:

Staurogyne sp. 'Porto Velho' is a rare and sought-after aquatic plant known for its compact, bushy growth and deep green, slightly elongated leaves. Originating from Brazil, this species is closely related to Staurogyne repens but has a more delicate, trailing growth habit, making it an excellent choice for foreground or midground placement in aquascapes. Its creeping nature allows it to spread naturally across the substrate, creating a dense and lush effect in a well-maintained aquarium.

Care Requirements:

  • Water Parameters: Thrives in temperatures of 20–28°C, with a pH range of 5.5–7.5 and soft to moderately hard water (3–12 dGH).
  • Nutrient Requirements: Requires nutrient-rich substrate and benefits from liquid fertilization, particularly iron and micronutrients, to maintain its rich green color. CO₂ supplementation significantly enhances growth and leaf density.
  • Tank Setup: Prefers fine-grain, nutrient-rich substrate for strong root anchoring. It requires moderate to high lighting to encourage compact, creeping growth. Works well in both high-tech and low-tech setups, though CO₂ enhances its development.

Care Tips:

To maintain a dense and healthy carpet, trim regularly to encourage lateral spreading. Providing stable water parameters and avoiding drastic changes will help prevent melting or stunted growth. If grown in a low-tech setup, ensure good lighting and occasional fertilization to keep the plant thriving.

Staurogyne sp. 'Porto Velho' is a stunning addition to any aquascape, offering a unique creeping growth pattern that enhances both natural and structured layouts. Its rich green leaves and ability to spread across the substrate make it a highly desirable plant for hobbyists looking to create a lush underwater environment.
