Proserpinaca palustris, commonly known as Mermaid Weed, is a captivating stem plant native to wetlands across North and South America. Valued for its distinctive, saw-toothed foliage and striking color transitions, this plant adds an exotic touch to any aquascape. Growing between 10–40 cm tall and 5–15 cm wide, Proserpinaca palustris transforms under varying light conditions—its leaves display shades ranging from vibrant green to reddish-pink or even copper tones in high light.
In aquariums, the submerged form develops fine, needle-like leaves that create an elegant, textured appearance. Regular trimming encourages compact, bushy growth and prevents older leaves from shedding.
