DESCRIPTION

Celestichthys erythromicron (Emerald Dwarf Rasbora)

Background:

Celestichthys erythromicron, commonly known as the Emerald Dwarf Rasbora, is a striking nano fish native to the freshwater lakes of Myanmar, particularly Lake Inle. This species is prized for its unique emerald green body adorned with horizontal blue stripes and its bright orange-tipped fins. Small yet vibrant, the Emerald Dwarf Rasbora thrives in peaceful aquariums and is ideal for planted tanks or nano setups.

Care Requirements:

  • Water Parameters:

    • Temperature: 20–24°C (68–75°F)

    • pH: 6.5–7.5

    • Hardness: 4–10 dGH (soft to moderately hard water)

  • Diet: These micro-predators prefer small live and frozen foods such as daphnia, baby brine shrimp, and microworms. They can be trained to accept high-quality micro-pellets and crushed flakes over time.

  • Tank Setup: A planted tank with a soft substrate, driftwood, and gentle filtration mimics their natural habitat. Subdued lighting and dense vegetation help these shy fish feel secure.

  • Behavior: Emerald Dwarf Rasboras are peaceful schooling fish that do best in groups of at least 8–10 individuals. Their social behavior creates an engaging and colorful display.

  • Tank Size: A minimum of 40 liters (10 gallons) is recommended for a small school.

Care Tips:

  • Perform regular water changes to maintain clean and stable water conditions, as they are sensitive to fluctuations.

  • Provide plenty of plants, including floating plants, to create shaded areas and reduce stress.

  • Avoid housing with larger, aggressive fish; their small size makes them vulnerable to predation.

  • Feed a variety of small, nutrient-rich foods to enhance their vibrant colors and overall health.

Suitable Tank Mates:

  • Small Rasboras

  • Pygmy Corydoras

  • Dwarf Shrimp

  • Otocinclus Catfish

  • Peaceful Nano Fish

The Emerald Dwarf Rasbora’s iridescent beauty and peaceful demeanor make it a perfect addition to nano and planted aquariums. Their schooling behavior and vibrant appearance will add life and color to any well-maintained aquatic setup.
