DESCRIPTION

Introduction:

Taxiphyllum sp. 'Flame Moss' is a captivating moss variety that stands out for its unique upward-twisting growth pattern, resembling flickering green flames—hence the name. Native to Southeast Asia and introduced into the aquascaping world for its dramatic vertical flow, Flame Moss is ideal for attaching to hardscape elements like driftwood or stone. Unlike most mosses that spread horizontally, this species grows in slow, elegant spirals upward, creating texture and visual movement in the aquarium. The in vitro form ensures a clean start, free from algae, snails, and other unwanted pests—ideal for sensitive tanks and detailed layouts.

Care Requirements:

  • Water Parameters:
    Temperature: 20–28°C
    pH Range: 5.5–7.5
    Hardness: Soft to medium (2–12°dH)

  • Nutrient Requirements:
Flame Moss requires minimal feeding but benefits from low doses of liquid fertilizers, especially micronutrients. It does not require CO₂, though additional CO₂ will enhance color and density.

  • Tank Setup:
    Minimum Tank Size: 10 litres
Substrate: Not required; moss should be tied or glued to hardscape
Decorations: Ideal for driftwood, rocks, or mesh pads
Lighting: Low to medium—stronger light encourages denser, more upright growth
    CO₂: Optional

Care Tips:

Rinse off the culture gel thoroughly before use. Gently divide the moss into small portions and tie or glue it to wood or stone with fine thread or aquarium-safe adhesive. Trim occasionally to maintain shape and prevent overgrowth. Avoid strong water flow that may disrupt its vertical growth pattern. Ideal for shrimp tanks and nano layouts due to its delicate size and safe structure.

With its one-of-a-kind flame-like structure, Taxiphyllum sp. 'Flame Moss' adds drama, dimension, and softness to any aquascape. Perfect for artistic layouts, low-maintenance tanks, or moss walls, it brings both function and beauty with minimal effort.
