DESCRIPTION

Boraras maculatus (Spotted Dwarf Rasbora)

The Spotted Dwarf Rasbora (Boraras maculatus) is a charming, small species perfect for nano aquariums. Known for their vibrant red-orange bodies with dark spots, these fish bring life and beauty to planted tanks.

  • Temperature: They thrive in warm waters with a temperature range of 22-28°C
  • Lifespan: With proper care, they can live up to 3-5 years.
  • Size: These fish remain small, typically growing to about 1.5-2 cm in length.
  • Tank Size: Due to their size, a small tank of 20 liters or more is suitable, though they prefer more space to swim comfortably.
  • Tankmates: They are peaceful and do well with other small, non-aggressive species like other micro rasboras, small tetras, and shrimp. Avoid larger or aggressive tankmates that may bully or eat them.
  • Water Parameters: Spotted Dwarf Rasboras prefer soft, slightly acidic water with a pH between 4.0 and 6.5. Water hardness should be low, between 1-5 dGH.
  • Diet: They are micro-predators and feed primarily on small live foods like daphnia, brine shrimp, and microworms. They will also accept high-quality micro-pellets or finely crushed flakes.
  • Care: These fish are relatively easy to care for, provided the water is clean and the tank is well-planted. They feel most secure in heavily planted aquariums with plenty of hiding spots. Regular water changes and stable water conditions will help them thrive.
  • Behavior: Spotted Dwarf Rasboras are schooling fish and should be kept in groups of at least 6-8 to prevent stress and display their best colors.
