DESCRIPTION

The Copper Leaf Ammannia is native to tropical Africa, as well as many other Ammannia species. It occurs in various wet places. As an amphibious plant, it is able to grow above and underwater. Ammannia senegalensis is already long known as a colorful stem plant in the aquarium hobby. It develops quite narrow, 2-6 cm long, brown-red to almost orange red submerged leaves. Characteristically the leaf margins are rolled downward. This species grows and propagates faster than Ammannia gracilis.

Good lighting and a complete macro-and micronutrient supply, also via the substrate, are important for this species. Also, CO2 addition is recommendable. The optimum temperatures are about 22 and 28 °C. The plant is easily propagated by cuttings.

This Ammannia is best placed as a group in the midground or background or as a "plant street" in Dutch-style aquariums. With its brown-red tones, it contrasts well with light green plants. It fits better in small aquariums than Ammannia gracilis.
